Amazon.com Review Just because it's raining, snowing or otherwise blustery outside, that doesn't mean that your child can't get the exercise she needs. The Fisher Price Smart Cycle combines the fun indoor activity of video game playing with the physical activity the great outdoors will give you. Designed for kids ages three to six, the Smart Cycle "physical learning arcade system" is an all-in-one stationary bike, video game console, and educational tool. Your little one will exercise her brain and her body -- and have loads of fun in the process.

The Smart Cycle games provide different levels for growing kids. View larger. | Turn on your TV and Start your Engines! The Smart Cycle plugs directly into your VCR or TV and requires no need for a separate game system. Simply connect the Smart Cycle to your television's input jacks, insert the included game cartridge "key," and your child can start riding -- and learning -- right away! Your child pedals the bike to keep the game going and "steers" with the movable handlebars. A large, easy-to-use and conveniently placed joy stick and bright buttons control the games and educational tools. The Smart Cycle comes with a "learning adventure," in which your child drives a car by pedaling the bike and turning the handlebars. She can splash through mud puddles and take treacherous corners as she tries to catch letters of the alphabet along the road. She'll learn to keep pedaling to keep moving, while at the same time learning her alphabet! Versatility Adds to the Fun The Smart Cycle includes a game cartridge that features several fun and educational adventures that will keep your child happily entertained. A trip to "Math Mountain" will help her practice her numbers, while an adventure-filled trek to "Shape Lake" will introduce her to a wide array of different shapes. The Smart Cycle also includes an exciting car racing game that two children can play at the same time, while a "creative journal" lets your child create pictures and snapshots of her "worldwide" travels. The fun doesn't have to stop when your child gets her fill of exercise: she can stop and rest, and continue the fun and learning by using the bike's joy stick and buttons to navigate through many other games and adventures. And best of all, several optional game cartridges that can be used with the Smart Cycle (sold separately) will keep your child continually entertained, including games that feature favorite characters such as Dora the Explorer, SpongeBob SquarePants, Barbie, and Hot Wheels cars. With its wide array of games and height-adjustable seat, the Smart Cycle is designed to grow with your child. So as your child grows both physically and intellectually, the Smart Cycle will grow with her. The Ultimate Test Drive We found the Smart Cycle easy to assemble and very simple to install with our television set. All we needed for assembly was a Phillips screwdriver and four "D" batteries (not included). As long as your television or VCR is equipped with the red, white, and yellow RCA jacks to connect the Smart Cycle, you're set to go. We simply connected the included plugs to the television's jacks, turned the television on, and we were ready for hours of fun. Once the game started, the cycle seemed easy enough to operate, making it not too much of a challenge to result in frustrating a child, but not so easy that it would soon become boring. With the additional optional game cartridges, we believe the Smart Cycle promises to be a long-lasting source of entertainment. The Smart Cycle comes with an easy-to-follow instruction manual, and the set-up only took a few minutes. However, one minor set-back we experience was that we needed the paper instruction manual on hand to understand how to play the video game; we found some elements of the games to be nearly impossible to understand without the instructions. An intuitive set of online instructions designed for children to follow, without the need to consult a paper manual, would make for a near-ideal gaming experience for any child (and parent). Also, although the seat offers four height levels, the handlebars are not height adjustable, which may present a problem for some smaller children. Pros: - Provides a source of indoor exercise for young children
- Designed to grow with your child's physical and intellectual development
- Helps develop your child's motor skills
- Easy to install and use
- Includes several fun and entertaining educational games
Cons: - The instructions to some of the games are difficult to understand
- The cycle's handlebars are not height adjustable

Its Great! My daughter Loves It.Rest of family Loves /Learn,exc. January 1, 2009 Gina S. Hunter (Cookeville, TN) The whole family thinks its GREAT for our 3yr. old. And she loves it aswell. FOR the learning reasons of couse, and I will order more games for it as she gets good w/dora and what it has for to learn, she doesnt go to daycare yet. so,we think the smart cycle is the way to go. Thank You, Gina Hunter. and for having it at a price we could afford! All parents w/children should have The Smart Cycle for learning made FUN & the exerise OR BOTH. those 2 things are the VERY 2 things children are needing NOW. Drs.& teachers think so aswell as you here on T.V. Thank You! Gina Hunter
It's okay December 31, 2008 Jena C. Anderberg (Maple Grove, MN United States) Pros: 1) Assembly is quick and easy 2) The product functions as advertised Cons: 1) Graphics and sound are terrible. Low quality, 16-bit. In an age where memory and CPU power are incredibly inexpensive, there's just no excuse for this. Well, okay there is an excuse and it's called cheapness. 2) Games are poorly designed. The child can easily meet the game's objectives by doing nothing at all. Sheer probability and no penalties of any kind mean that even if the child does not move his arms at all, and simply peddles, he will find all the letters, or numbers, or whatever. Shouldn't an educational product also teach a child how to lose? 2a) The game's movements are not smooth. The child turns the handle bars and the vehicle essentially jumps. From what I could tell the 'road' seems to have four pre-defined lanes that the child can be in. There is nothing in between. Over all the product screams laziness and cheapness on the part of Fisher Price. This should anger every consumer. These products don't happen by accident. They are the product of board room meetings in which adults make conscious decisions to cut corners, find the cheapest Chinese production facilities, and on and on it goes. That the toy should be of high quality and as enjoyable as possible for the child is only a secondary concern if it is a concern at all.
Great idea, but needs improvements December 31, 2008 C. Kelsall (Kirksville, MO) I got this for my 2 boys for Christmas. I had to send the first one back cause it didn't work at all. I got the second one and it worked fine, however the second time they used it the right pedal came off and can't get it to stay on for anything. We just have to keep putting it back on. It's something to give them good exercise during the cold months, but don't expect to much from it. also, as others stated, it does not hold any kind of memory and only power option is D cell batteries.
Great Fun Educational Toy December 31, 2008 blueyesnight (Georgia) I purchased this item for my nephew, age 4, as a Christmas present. He loves it! It was easy to put together, easy to connect to the TV, and easy for him to play immediately. The only problem we encountered with the product involves the bolts for the pedals. He managed to strip the original bolts in just a couple of days. Thankfully, his grandfather was able to find more well constructed bolts to replace the original set that came with the Smart Cycle. Hopefully, there will be no further problems!
Love it, but would like to see the following improvements: December 30, 2008 Gail Carson (Florida) My 4 year old LOVES this toy!! However, I have some ideas for some improvements for the next generation of Smartcycle: Add a resistance knob, so that the pedals can be increasingly difficult to push, to give more exercise, instead of freewheeling with no tension. Add a DC output for an AC adaptor. Make a cartridge all about flying, pedaling an ultralight, or space bike. Put in a usb port, and built in hard drive, and give users the ability to download new adventures from a computer website, to keep the toy updated with new games and skills. This is a very cool toy, thank you. It is a big hit in this house! Gail Carson
