Amazon.com Review Any child can be instantly transformed into an authentic Clone Trooper with the Hasbro Clone Wars Voice Changer Helmet. Featuring a sleek, futuristic look and details that are sure to please any Star Wars fan, this adjustable helmet issues popular sayings from the TV show and amplifies your child's voice, adding a fun element to imaginative play. Designed for aspiring troopers aged five and up, this helmet is fun for adults, too. | What We Think Fun Factor:
Durability: (what this means)
The Good: Durable, realistic Clone Trooper helmet
The Bad: Size may be awkward for younger children
In a Nutshell: Inspires active, imaginative play that spans distant galaxies | At a Glance Ages: 5 and older Requires: 3 AA batteries (included) | | |
The mask is sure to please a Star Wars fan. View larger. |
The microphone inside changes and amplifies your child's voice. View Larger. | Join the Grand Army of the Republic Preparing for your first mission as a Clone Trooper is quick and easy. Before you assemble the helmet, adjust the straps on the insert to fit your child, then snap it into place. We had to try several times before the two back pieces and the front of the helmet snapped together neatly. Once we got the three pieces aligned correctly, they attached securely, producing a sleek, sturdy helmet. The three "AA" batteries that power audio features come already installed. Featuring realistic details, including a tinted visor, a crest on top, and clone-inspired colors, this durable, plastic helmet has three buttons on the right side that prompt five different sayings from the Clone Wars TV show. A button that issues radio static keeps communication interesting, and commands like "Cover Me!" and "All units fire at will!" add a quick adrenaline rush to any battle. Plus, there's a voice-modulator microphone so kids (and adults) can issue their own statements in a cool clone voice. Experience Intergalactic Role Playing Whether part of a Halloween custom, an everyday role-playing game, or a display in the ultimate collector's bedroom, this Clone Trooper helmet brings home all the excitement of Star Wars. We were floored by the accuracy and durability of its construction. Plus the tinted visor was much easier to see through than we expected, as long as the helmet was sized correctly. The size and weight that make this helmet so realistic and durable did cause us to worry about how easy it would be for smaller children to wear. It's true that the straps inside adjust to fit small heads, but that doesn't prevent the size of the helmet itself from being awkward. Similarly, the microphone is adjustable, but it can still be stuck too far away from a small child's mouth. This means that the helmet has to be lifted by hand to speak through the microphone. When it's positioned close enough to the wearer's face, the microphone does a good job amplifying statements and commands, as well as providing the static you'd expect from a clone. It's ability to truly modify and deepen a voice is less reliable, although this doesn't really detract from the fun. Overall, it's hard to beat a toy that encourages active, imaginative play the way this helmet does. Even adults who are loyal to the original trilogy are likely to enjoy slipping the Clone Trooper helmet on and taking part in the struggles of the Republic. my nephew loved this December 28, 2008 jqw (Ohio) My K-age nephew loved this "Star Wars hat" before he even knew it had the voice changer. I had given a Darth Vader helmet to his slightly older brother a year earlier and they immediately exchanged presents amongst themselves. Right gifts, wrong nephews. I should mention that I am a preschool teacher and halted momentarily when I came to the question about educational value. It is not the alphabet, but I had to say that it is educational because young children learn through play. Dramatic play is one of the ways they develop abstract thinking. And he played and played with this. Give a few books, as I did, to appease your conscience, if you must. Better yet, join in the play. I also enjoyed saving the $100.00 I would have spent additionally if I had actually walked into a Target store instead of buying this through Amazon. Great gift. Right nephew. Great shopping experience.
Does not change your voice December 27, 2008 Kat (San Francisco, CA) I got this for my nephew for Christmas and was a little disappointed with this helmet. While it looks really cool and the pre programmed voices sound great, there is no real voice changer or voice amplifier. Thankfully, my nephew was not disappointed by the helmet. Not recommended if you're looking to have a voice changer - recommended it you just want to look cool in a clone trooper helmet.
Clone Trooper Helmet December 16, 2008 I. Berecz (Connecticut) The helmet looks very neat. But--it is huge; my son is 5 and it won't stay properly on his head regardless of any adjustments inside the helmet itself. It was interesting to him for about 2 days and then I think it is just too cumbersome for him and he lost interest. It needs to be made overall smaller.
CHEAPER!!! December 16, 2008 S. harriman ok so this is bullcrap people. they are raping you. this helmet used to be like $30 yesterday. today it's almost $100? no way you guys. go to walmart. in stock. only $30, don't waste your money on "kingtoys" they are screwing you. AND shipping with walmart is only .97 cents!!
Not for kids under 6 December 14, 2008 Thinh X. Nguyen This product is defintely cool, but very annoying. Here are my three issues with it. 1) durability It doesn't stay together. It is comprised of 3 sections: a face, a back, and a top. The three sections are not put together very well, as the become seperated through regular play. I've had to push it together quite a few times and I'm going to just tape them now. 2)poor ventilation The other big thing is poor ventilation. I was wondering why my 6 year old son did not wear this helmet for more than one house during Halloween night. My wife handed it to me and I put it on to wear around... I soon realized how hot it gets while wearing this helmet. There needs to be some holes drilled around the mouth piece and top of the helmet to allow more airflow. 3) microphone placement The microphone is placed at almost the very tip of the chin area on the helment. My six year old's mouth rests far above the microphone when he has the helmet on his head. So what ends up happening is he doesn't even use the microphone at all. Overall, I would not purchase one of these as a gift for a kid. Perhaps for an adult to just display in a work cubicle or something.
